It’s been a while since I checked out one of Cherry Kiss Games’ releases, but when I saw Catgirl & Doggirl Cafe they had my attention. This looked like a super cute Nukige about a young man that through a series of unfortunate events winds up in a strange world and begins to run a cafe with a cute catgirl and doggirl. I wasn’t expecting a super deep story, but let’s see if this one is entertaining and worth your coin.

Cat Doggirl | Maid Outfits

The story follows a young man named Ayato. You can rename the MC to whatever name you would like in the options, and he works at a restaurant. He is learning as much as he can there so he can open his own place one day. On his way home one night he saves a couple of young girls from being hit by a car but is struck himself. He wakes up not in his home of Japan, but in a strange European style country. He soon finds himself cooking for the King of this land who takes a liking to him. The King sets him up with a cafe in a town and some starter money for ingredients. Instead of using the money for that, he saves a catgirl and doggirl from an abusive slaver. In this world Demi-Humans are treated as slaves and treated as like animals. He gave them their freedom, but since they have nowhere to go they decide to stay and help Ayato run the cafe. The three of them will get closer than ever imagined as this comedy romance romp plays out.

Catgirl Doggirl Cafe | Cherela

While this isn’t the deepest story by any means, the writing really helped bring these characters to life. The catgirl is named Cherela, and she is quite bit more reserved than her doggirl friend, Primina. She is quite the tsundere in the cutest way possible and it doesn’t take long at all before she completely steals your heart. Primina, being much more forward than Cherela, wants to thank her master for freeing her right off the bat. He felt like he may be taking advantage of her at first, but soon realized this was what she really wanted. The girls play off each other really well, and you just want to see what kinda of lewd situation comes up next.

catgirl doggirl | Primina Drunk

The artwork is all top notch. The girls look adorable in their various outfits and their facial expressions really add a bit of emotion to each scene. While there aren’t many backgrounds to speak of, they are decently detailed and really help immerse you in this world. The mouth animations were pretty distracting, but you can turn those off in the options. Overall I felt the visuals were great quality for the price point.

In the audio department this is a mixed bag. The music is all pretty basic, but it fits each scene and does provide a bit of ambiance. The game is fully voiced in Japanese and the actors do a fantastic job of bringing these characters to life. The eroge scenes are really something else and if you have headphones I’d crank that volume down just a bit. That’s not saying it’s bad but they get pretty loud, if you get where I’m going here.

This being a Nukige you can expect a ton of H-scenes. There are fifteen of them in total and each one is very well done. Each scene has been created with care and the writing and artwork are top quality. I do wish the mosaics had been removed, but publishers here in the West are at the mercy of the Japanese creators on these things. While they detract from the overall presentation they aren’t the worst I’ve seen by a long shot. All of the scenes in this one are pretty vanilla, one even has lots of icing! While I know some folks love the extreme kinks it’s good to see some good old fashion loving sometimes as well.

Catgirl & Doggirl Cafe is a very cute and romantic visual novel. While the story here isn’t deep it is really sweet and the characters really are quite lovable. The game is pretty short at just around 3 to 4 hours, but I feel like the quality here justifies its $9.99 price tag. The writing here is well done, even if there are a few typos here and there. A patch was released while I was reviewing this that addressed most of them. There is an unlockable scene gallery and the you can also view the CGs found here at any point once you’ve unlocked them. The mosaics in the H-scenes are kind of a drag, but they are certainly not a deal breaker. I would highly recommend this one for anyone into romantic stories that loves catgirls and doggirls. These girls will steal your heart in a second once you start reading.
