At last year’s E3, after laying dormant for five years, the lights flickered once again and CD Projekt Red gave us more information about the status of Cyberpunk 2077. We received a new trailer and a first look at the gameplay. The team has one upped themselves this year though with a brand new look into the game’s story and the announcement of an official release date. In the newest trailer, we follow the protagonist, V, who finds himself engaged in a bloody gunfight after him and his partner steal a chip of some kind. V’s partner ends up dying, V gets a bit rough with some unsavory characters who don’t appreciate the scene he made, he ends up being shot, and then he awakens outside somewhere. It’s here where the trailer ends and we get our first glimpse at a special guest who will join us and be along for the ride- Keanu Reeves.
As soon as the trailer wrapped up, Reeves took to the stage and gave us not only some more important story details but an official release date as well. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently poised to release on April 16, 2020. Though featured at the Microsoft press conference this year, the game is still on track for a release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. As of right now, pre-orders have already gone live for all systems.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a massive endeavor over 7 years in the making. It’s certainly come a long way since it was first announced back in 2012. Only time will tell if this one ends up being worth the wait, but given the development team’s recent successes and accolades, this looks to be a title that you should continue to keep a close eye on. You can do just that by visiting the official Cyberpunk 2077 website.
