DrinkBox Studios surprised Switch owners with the news that both Guacamelee! and its recent sequel are coming to Nintendo Switch. Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, in fact, is now live on the Switch eShop in North America and Europe. Guacamelee! 2 is currently pegged for a December release window.
DrinkBox’s 2013 brawler/Metroidvania hybrid Guacamelee! has been around the block before with releases on PlayStation 3 and 4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox One and 360, and PC over the last five years. Series protagonist Juan has also cameoed in several indie projects as a playable character, including Brawlout, Runbow, and Indivisible.
The Super Turbo Championship Edition version of Guacamelee! includes the original base game on top of additional maps, bosses, and power-ups. While the original game has drop-in-drop-out co-op for two players (supported on Switch with single Joy-Cons), Gucamelee! 2, released this past August as a PS4 timed console-exclusive, bumps it up to four players.
Guacamelee! STCE can be found on the eShop for $14.99 USD and regional equivalents. When the sequel launches, owners can purchase part 2 for a 30% discount.
