Old School Musical | GAME OVER

Any game with this screen has my attention

I am quite a fan of rhythm games. There’s something relaxing about falling into the beat, and you can really get engrossed in the simplicity of these games. So when I saw Playdius was working on a rhythm game full of various musical mini games (not unlike WarioWare), I paid attention. That game is Old School Musical, and it is slated to come to Steam and Switch this September 13th. The nostalgia is deep in this one, and I’m certainly adding Old School Musical to my watch list. If you want to pre-order this loving tribute to gaming now, you can do so on both Steam and the Switch eShop. To find out more details about the game, just read the full press release below.

Old School Musical Reveals Radical Retro Soundtrack, Coming Soon to Nintendo Switch™ and Steam Sept. 13

Independent Developer La Moutarde and Publisher Playdius Partners with Renowned Chiptune Artists to Bring 8-bit Era Rhythm Game to Life

Old School Musical | OutRash Revenge 2

Paris — Aug. 16, 2018 — Global game publisher Playdius and independent game developer La Moutarde announced today that its upcoming rhythm game Old School Musical will release digitally for Nintendo Switch™ and PC on Sept. 13, 2018. Available to pre-order today for $12.99 USD via the Nintendo eShop and Steam, Old School Musical is unlike any rhythm game ever made, and invites players to revisit the golden age of gaming with a rocking retro soundtrack and levels inspired by 8-bit era classics.

Old School Musical follows the adventures of Tib and Rob, two video game characters trained by their missing mother to be top class video game heroes. Players must stay in (chip)tune, synching inputs with flying notes to help Tib and Rob find their missing mother. Miss too many notes, and Tib and Rob’s adventure will fall flat!

Filled to the brim with nostalgia fueled references and nods to classic 8-bit games, genres, and tropes, Old School Musical is like a love letter to ‘80s and ‘90s kids in the form of a rhythm game. Put the pedal to the metal in levels inspired by retro racers, shoot down enemies and weave through a bullet hell in side scroller shooter levels, and take the fight to evil chicken armies to the beat of chiptune tracks from famous artists, including: Dubmood, Zabutom, Hello World, Yponeko, and Le Plancton. Discover over 50 tracks, composed exclusively for Old School Musical.

Playdius is the publishing branch of Plug In Digital, video game distribution leader based in France. Since 2015, we have been patiently building a strong line up on PC, Consoles and Mobile with games from all over the world such as Hover, Bury Me My Love, Splasher or upcoming Away and Edge of Eternity. Our ambition is to bring to the players the very best of incredible indie production, with creative and different games that match with our motto: “Play Outside the Box”.

Based in Montpellier, south of France, La Moutarde (The Mustard) is a small team composed of developers, graphic designers, and sound artists driven by a common passion: video games. We built the project “La Moutarde” around our first game: Old School Musical. We want our game to be as subtle and refined as a good ol’ hand-made Mustard for everyone to enjoy.
