This week, I’m not hiding from the sun while writing the Nintendo Download! It’s a wonderful day of cool breezes and cloudy gray skies. But luckily that doesn’t mean the Nintendo Download is boring, far from it! We’re almost upon the release of the latest Wario game, plus there are a bunch of new games, digital and otherwise. So let’s see what games are worth playing this week.
I absolutely adore the WarioWare series. I have since the very beginning, where the random antics kept me entertained for hours on end. It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a new game, so you can imagine how pumped I am that the latest entry, WarioWare Gold, hits the Nintendo 3DS tomorrow! Better yet, Gold will have mini games from past entries remade for 3DS glory as well as brand spanking new games, with some 300 total. If you love crazy games you can play in your spare time, or just want to enjoy what will likely be the last WarioWare game, you owe it to yourself to check it out. But that’s not all this week! If you love gaming with friends, you might enjoy the multiplayer culinary madness of Overcooked! 2 on the Switch. While I can’t chime in on personal experience with the game, I have heard very good things. If you’re more in the mood for a puzzle platformer, you might enjoy the antics of Flipping Death. You’ll play a newly dead reaper able to possess the living, and it has some pretty nifty art. But that’s not the only death, as Dead Cells is also coming to the Switch August 7th! I really enjoyed this atmospheric Metroidvania at PAX West, and I think it should find a good home on the indie supportive console. Finally, if you like your games hard and open ended, you might appreciate Salt and Sanctuary also coming to the Switch today!
Normally this is where I’d cover the new sales, but for once the Game Guide is misbehaving again. So instead we’ll skip to the latest events gracing the Nintendo Switch.
Fire Emblem Heroes: Feh’s Summer Celebration – It’s been one year and six months since the release of the Fire Emblem Heroes smart phone game. We’re throwing a Summer Celebration full of limited-time events, including log-in bonuses, special quests and daily reward maps, to express our gratitude for your continued support.
Keep the fun going all summer long with action-packed My Nintendo rewards! – To help celebrate the launch of the WarioWare Gold game, we’re offering Wario-themed rewards, like a Nintendo 3DS Home menu theme featuring Ashley, one of the key characters from WarioWare Gold, and wallpaper. Redeem your points to get them!
My Nintendo is also offering up to 50 percent discounts on action-packed titles that’ll give your gaming skills a workout throughout the summer. Check out the rewards and redeem your points for the discounts today.
Finally, let’s close out with a heap of brand new digital games. First the ones out next week, which is the following two titles. A puzzle / adventure game called In Between and a crazy party game called Slam Land. Both entirely different looking titles. The rest are out this week.
For retro this week, there’s no ACA NEOGEO or Arcade Archives, so the best bet is the colorful madness of Flat Heroes. If you love lots of reading and interesting plots, there are 3 options for you – Ayakashi Koi Gikyoku -Forbidden Romance with Mysterious Spirit-, The Inner World and The Inner World – The Last Wind Monk. For those who want to party with friends, you should check out Crush Your Enemies! Perhaps you prefer to fill your enemies full of lead? Then there’s Guns, Gore and Cannoli 2. For tricky platforming, there’s Toby: The Secret Mine and Road to Ballhalla, and for epic 3D exploration there’s Eekeemoo – Splinters of the Dark Shard. To try something a bit different, look no further than Dawn of the Breakers. And finally, for a truly epic adventure, you need to play Iconoclasts (at least if you don’t already own it on Steam or PSN).
Pretty good list, despite no sales this week. Be sure to tune in to oprainfall next Thursday for the latest Nintendo Download full of promising new games. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to figure out when I’m picking up my order of WarioWare Gold!
