Funimation describes the premise as thus:

The first volume of Ace Attorney‘s anime adaptation launches on Blu-Ray on January 23rd, 2018. Aired in Japan and simulcast on the livestreaming service Crunchyroll in 2016, it is an adaptation of Capcom’s enduring visual novel attorney-at-law series, the anime of which is produced by A-1 Pictures.
