El Dia have announced in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu that they are remastering the Sega Saturn visual novel/adventure game hybrid “Doukoku Soshite…” for PS4 and PS Vita. The remaster will feature new story elements as well as charming characters as well as a story known in-game as “Trap Divergent.” The title originally released for the Sega Saturn in 1998 and was developed by Data East Corporation. This remastered version is currently 60% complete for release in Japan. Here is a synopsis of the game, via Moby Games.

In this game, you play the role of a high-school student (whom you can name as you like). A bus takes him and his classmates to the school every day. But this time, just when the hero was talking to one of his classmates, the lovely girl Riyo, a car drove up to the bus, there was a sound of a crash, and then the hero became unconscious. When he woke up, he found himself, his classmates (most of whom were girls), and a couple of unknown people in a locked room in a strange mansion. Soon the hero realizes something terrible is going on in the mansion. People are being killed under mysterious circumstances, their corpses hidden; he finds a memo soaked in blood and a photograph. Will he be able to solve the mystery and to protect the people destiny brought him together with?

Doukoku Soshite… is an adventure game that incorporates elements of both Western and Japanese adventure styles. Like most “digital novels”, there are multiple endings depending on the decisions you make during the game (mostly concerning your relationship with the girls). However, unlike digital novels, the game offers Western-style gameplay with free movement, interaction with the environment, inventory, and item-based puzzles.

Update: The remaster will launch in Japan for PS4 and PS Vita on 26th April 2017 for 7,800 yen on PS4 and 6,800 yen over on PS Vita. The new enhancements for this title include high resolution graphics, the inclusion of previously unused CGs, scenario revisions by the original writer as well as a hint mode feature.
