Developer Psyonix has revealed the exclusive cars for the Nintendo Switch port of Rocket League. The exclusive vehicles include the Mario NSR, Luigi NSR, and Samus’ Gunship from Metroid, all free and unlockable.
Also part of the Switch package are custom Nintendo parts to match, including the Mario and Luigi Toppers, Super Star Rocket Boost, and Wave Beam’ Rocket Boost.
Each of the Nintendo vehicles on offer will be team color-specific. As Psyonix lays it out:
Players on the Orange team can use the ‘Mario NSR’ and ‘Samus’ Gunship,’ while Blue team members automatically equip the ‘Luigi NSR’ and a classic Samus color variation of her Varia Suit.
For players on other platforms, these Nintendo skins will show as generic stock cars, due to licensing issues of Nintendo IP appearing on PC and rival consoles. For the Switch game, the Mario and Luigi Toppers is usable with any non-licensed battle car. However, the Super Star Rocket Boost can only be used with the Mario NSR and Luigi NSR cars, and the Wave Beam’ Rocket Boost is exclusive to Samus’ ship.
The Switch version of Rocket League was officially announced back in June, due in the fall but currently is without a release date. It will retain cross-play with the Xbox One and PC versions, but not the PlayStation 4 edition, where Rocket League gained popularity back in 2015. Psyonix promises more details on how you’ll be able to unlock these Nintendo parts soon.
