Music game legends Masaya Matsuura and Keiichi Yano, have launched a KickStarter campaign for a new rhythm action epic entitled Project Rap Rabbit. Described as a symphony of “Japanese and Western styles”, Rap Rabbit draws from traditional Japanese folklore and modern hip-hop and rap music, more specifically the Epic Rap Battles Of History YouTube series.
Both leading developers on Project Rap Rabbit come from rhythm-laden backgrounds. Mr. Matsuura is the creator of Parappa the Rapper and Vib-Ribbon, while Mr. Yano is the lead behind Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan (aka Elite Beat Agents) and Gitaroo Man. Other talents on the project include Atsushi Saito (lead artist) and Yuji Technouchi (sound designer). Development duties will be shared by the lead’s respective studios NanaOn-Sha and iNiS J.
As of this writing, the stretch goal to bring Project Rap Rabbit to PlayStation 4 and PC has been reached, with the KickStarter sitting at over $92,000. Other platforms, like the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, have a long ways to go toward their stretch goals. The Switch port in particular will require nearly $5,000,000 to craft into reality.
The backing process began on May 15th and has 34 days to go. All the particulars of Project Rap Rabbit, including its design and all the backer rewards, can be found on the game’s KickStarter listing.
