This is a momentous edition of the Nintendo Download, since it’s the first one to go out since the launch of the brand spanking new Switch! While I recognize there’s been lots of people talking about the system since then, both positive and negative, my personal experience with the system thus far has bee mostly in the positive category. While it’s true there aren’t that many games out yet, we all know there are plenty coming down the pipe, and some of those are newly released today! So let’s see what Nintendo has up their sleeves this time.
While it’s true that there is a demo version of Snipperclips – Cut it out, together! out now, that’s not the game that has me excited. No, the game that just released today on the Switch’s shiny new eShop is none other than the updated classic, Blaster Master Zero! Though I missed out on playing the original somehow, it was one of those games that somehow stuck in my consciousness and kept me fascinated in the premise. Now I can rectify that mistake, as this totally overhauled remake has a ton of new features to streamline the original, while still staying faithful to the style of the game. I especially am fond of the new graphical style, which hearkens to the classic era of gaming while looking pretty. It’s a nice bargain at the $9.99 price point, so if you’re interested to see how Inti Creates has handled the game, you should take a look.
Also released today is a classic game for the Wii U Virtual Console, Bomberman 64! This game I had fond memories of, back when Bomberman was still pretty relevant. It’s highly recommended if you missed out and like that classic Bomberman flavor. And be sure to stay tuned when my review of Super Bomberman R goes out, sometime in the near future.
On the sale side of things, there are still plenty of good deals to be had for those with a Wii U or 3DS. However, as many are also games we covered in last week’s Download, I’ll just focus on the new highlights. Etrian Mystery Dungeon is discounted from $29.99 to $19.99; the fascinating looking Master Reboot is down from $14.99 to $4.49; and lastly, SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked is a hefty discount from $29.99 to $9.99. The full list of sales can be found here.
Starting tomorrow, My Nintendo will be honoring MAR10 day with some discounts on Mario themed games, Mario wallpapers and DLC offerings. Not bad, though it would be more exciting if there were some Mario flavored games available on my Switch. Lastly, there are a handful of new releases this week on all Nintendo systems, with one proviso – the only good ones are coming to the Switch. I knew this sort of trend was inevitable, but it is still somewhat sad to me. That said, if you already have a Switch, you have lots to look forward to! There are several arcade Neo Geo series of games released for Switch eShop today, including the following – ACA NEOGEO NAM-1975; ACA NEOGEO THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’98; ACA NEOGEO WAKU WAKU 7; ACA NEOGEO METAL SLUG 3; ACA NEOGEO WORLD HEROES PERFECT and ACA NEOGEO SHOCK TROOPERS. Finally, there is a nicely animated rhythm game called VOEZ available for the Switch.
All in all, a pretty solid week, though definitely one catered more to Switch owners. Stay tuned to oprainfall for future Nintendo Downloads, and be sure to let us know how you feel about the new Nintendo system!
