DISCLAIMER: The opinions expressed here are those of the author only and do not reflect those of oprainfall as a whole. This opinion is piece is based on the February 2015 Vita release and is not relflective of the upcoming Steam version of the game.
The mere mention of Criminal Girls has become controversial itself. This is something I find very disheartening, mainly because the community doesn’t seem to want to talk about the game itself, just the controversies surrounding it. Many seem to have forgotten that beneath the localization changes and the BDSM theme, there is a game there that should be judged on its own merits. That’s what I intend to do here. I’m going to briefly explain what the game actually is and give my own thoughts as to some of the good and bad points of it. Before we begin however, let me address two things this opinion piece is not meant to do:
- This piece is not meant to change your mind regarding the changes NIS America made to the game from its Japanese release.
- This piece is not meant to change your mind regarding the content of the game. In particular, the bondage and power theme.
These two things are ethical decisions that everyone must make for themselves. Every person has their own personal tolerance as to what kind of content they find acceptable and what changes can be made when localizing a game. I am not here to tell you your opinion on these two matters is wrong. In fact, be proud of whatever decision you made because you made it for yourself. However, please respect other people’s choices on the matter. There’s nothing wrong with engaging in debate or discussion, in fact, I think it helps us more than anything, but just be professional and courteous about it. One final note is that this opinion piece is based on my experiences with the Vita version of the game. I have not played the upcoming Steam port at all. That being said, head on over to the next page and let’s start with what exactly Criminal Girls is.
