Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem was a rather unique survival horror game for the Gamecube developed by Silicon Knights and published by Nintendo back in 2002. Despite a pretty strong cult following and demands for a sequel, Eternal Darkness remains a franchise Nintendo seems to have forgotten, that is until very recently.

As of December 20th, Nintendo has submitted a trademark application for Eternal Darkness. This could mean a lot of things. It could just be a re-release of some kind, such as an HD remake, or possible part of a rumored Gamecube Virtual Console to be introduced on the Switch. Or… perhaps the long-awaited sequel many fans have been hoping for.

Nintendo’s application for Eternal Darkness.

Only time can tell what this trademark application truly means. Like always, we’ll keep you informed.
