I’m sure many of our readers here believe that Pokémon Gold and Silver are among the better games in the series.  Viz Media has a little treat for you who want to take a small trip down memory lane and revisit the Pokémon Johto Anime.

VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), the largest publisher, distributor and licensor of manga and anime in North America, delivers fresh new POKÉMON home media to fans with the release today of the POKÉMON: JOHTO LEAGUE CHAMPIONS – THE COMPLETE COLLECTION.

The hefty set includes 6 DVDs, featuring a total of 52 episodes, of the massively popular anime adventure property. POKÉMON: JOHTO LEAGUE CHAMPIONS – THE COMPLETE COLLECTION is rated ‘TV-Y7,’ for viewers ages 7 and older, and will carry an MSRP of $49.99 U.S. / CAN.

In the latest episodes, from the sprawling metropolis of Goldenrod City to the icy peak of Snowtop Mountain, the Johto region presents Ash, Misty, and Brock with exciting new adventures—along with a few familiar faces like their old friends Todd, Duplica, and Suzie! Johto’s rich past means plenty of Pokémon mysteries for our heroes to solve, and its exciting present means some tough challenges—Ash tackles three more Gyms, while handling competitions like the Pokémon Sumo Conference along the way.

I just came here to say that the Pokemon anime ended at Pokemon Master Quest. Ash x Misty forever!

Old grudges aside, I understand why they have Ash ditch all of his pokemon every region and replace the female companion. I just wish they would just use a new protagonist at some point rather than keep using Ash. Like almost every other children’s anime out there.

Replacing all of the characters would let them get away with doing the same thing over and over again without it being as mindnumbingly stupid too, so it’s kind of surprising that it doesn’t happen

I never really thought of Ash as the protagonist – always thought it was Pikachu, the series’s mascot. Ash is only around because he is directly tied to Pikachu. Get rid of Pikachu and you get rid of Ash.

It would be nice if they just rebooted each anime with protagonists from the games but oh well.

I forgot this wasn’t out (I randomly found it on Amazon a while back, so it was sitting on a wishlist). It’s currently going for $34 on Amazon. They also released the Johto Journeys set a while back ($27), as well as re-releasing the Orange Islands and Indigo League sets. Unfortunately, the latter two sets have missing episodes that were in the previous versions. That’s particularly annoying to me, because the missing episode in the Indigo League set is from part 3, which is the one part I never got from the previous version (which has now tripled in price).
