It’s always exciting when a new update hits Super Mario Maker, especially for Making It Rainfall! This opens up the doors to crazy new ideas and themes for levels. Since the newly added features this time around were Keys, Key Doors, Red Coins and Skewers, I thought the theme of Dungeons would be fitting. There are 6 different levels this time around, and some take the dungeon theme quite literally, while others go crazy with it. The only requirement was that the levels incorporate at least one or more of the new features. As always, I have personally tried and beaten each level to verify that they are well made and not unfair. We had a lot of fun with these levels, so we hope you like them!
Josh’s Levels
Level 1 – Cloudland Prison

Although I used the Airship theme to make this stage, it was intended to be more of a throwback to the skybound stages of past Mario games, most notably Super Mario 2 and 3. It’s not really supposed to be an “airship” level, but a floating prison that Mario has to navigate his way through, avoiding all sorts of hazards. Can you avoid the Skewers, get the Red Coins, and find your way to freedom?
Level 2 – Haunted Escape
Upload Code: E600-0000-01F0-3658
What’s creepier than a dungeon guarded by ghouls and ghosts? That was the theme I had in mind for this stage, and since it’s set to the Ghost House theme, there are lots of sneaky traps to watch out for, such as a Skull Roller Coaster, leaps of faith, Boos and more. Plus, you’ll need to face off against the guards to find the key you’ll need to get to the exit. Probably the trickiest stage I submitted for this week. Do yourself a favor and don’t forget to twirl to extend your jumps!
Level 3 – Temple of Phanto
Upload Code: 726F-0000-01EF-39A2
The first thing that sprung into my mind when I heard about the new features, especially the Key, was Super Mario 2. Specifically, finding keys in Super Mario 2, then hightailing it away from the unbeatable spectral menace, Phanto! Those escape sequences stick with me to this day, and even though we didn’t get any Super Mario 2 enemies or stage themes, I dedicated this one to Phanto himself. The whole stage is built so you’re constantly on your toes, trying to rush without doing something stupid. Can you find your way out of the Temple without losing your life?

Level 4 – The Twilight!
Upload Code: 2922-0000-01F4-6C70
This is a Twilight Princess themed level. You start as Wolf Link in the Twilight. If you can get past the skewers and escape the Twilight, you play as human Link. After the light area and an easter-egg hunt for red coins, you will be stopped in your tracks by Bowser Jr. Beat him and you’ve almost made it! There are some 1Ups scattered around as I always do in my levels. Finish the level as Wolf Link to get a nice Twilight Princess fanfare!
Phil’s Levels
Level 5 – One-Way Maze DX
Upload Code: 862C-0000-01EE-5A8E
Phil made a great and mind bending stage where you have to navigate a giant maze to find all the red coins to escape! Once you get through that section, you’ll need to find a lone key and then make your way to victory. This is a primarily cerebral stage, without much in the way of enemies or hazards. Your only real concern is beating the level before the clock KOs Mario.
Tyler’s Levels
Level 6 – Sprint For Red Coins
Upload Code: C055-0000-01F5-FC18
Tyler made another devilish, short and sweet stage. You’ll need to literally RACE to the finish while still collecting all the Red Coins strewn throughout, avoiding giant Chain Chomps, Thwomps and other traps. A very challenging but completely fair level, sure to appeal to the more hardcore Mario fans.
That’s it for this week’s Making It Rainfall! We hope you enjoy these levels, and please make sure to Like them and leave comments. Join us in a couple weeks for another crazy batch of stages.
