It’s shaping up to be an interesting year for Resident Evil, with 2016 being its 20th anniversary. To start, we have Resident Evil 0 Remastered coming soon this month. Additionally, there’s the Resident Evil Origins Collection that includes both Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil Remastered on a single disc, coming on the same day. And it seems that the Resident Evil content will clearly not end there for this year, being that this is the series’ 20th anniversary. There are rumors that allegedly we’ll hear about a lot of Resident Evil news this year, but it seemed to be only about the games. Now we’ve got news of merchandise coming, unexpectedly from Funko. Late 2015 revealed that Funko gained the rights to do Funko figures based on the Street Fighter series, which are supposedly coming soon.
It’s worth noting that Mega Man Funko pops were revealed as well under the same listing, so it looks like Funko may generally have the Capcom license, meaning that other franchises could get some merchandise. We’ll likely see more news and updates as time goes on with the Resident Evil license from Funko, considering the anniversary of the franchise. What game they may start with isn’t clear, though perhaps we may see the original to start with, especially since it got a remaster last year and a physical re-release later in Resident Evil: Origins Collection.
