In a poll published by 4Gamer, Japanese game developers overwhelmingly chose Splatoon as their game of 2015. The poll featured 133 developers, as well as a few voice-over artists and professional gamers. Of the 133, 24 chose Splatoon, making it the only game to reach double digits. It’s also pretty far ahead with the runners-up of Super Mario Maker, Bloodborne, and The Witcher 3, all receiving eight votes each.
Splatoon has been a surprise hit for Nintendo worldwide, but its success in Japan is certainly something to behold. The title recently sold over one million units in Japan alone, and the recent Splatoon Wii U bundle completely sold out in the region over the holiday. These strong sales have also helped the Wii U move more units than it in 2014, a year featuring both Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
