Bikini Warriors is an anime that plays on the tropes of modern ecchi and classic RPG’s. Produced by Hobby Japan, the series features four female hereos, Fighter, Paladin, Mage, and Dark elf. These heroes are sent on typical adventures where fans of RPG’s will enjoy the nods to their favorite genre.
Bikini Warrior‘s episodes are four minutes long giving little time for the anime to set up any kind of story or character plot. It uses this to it’s advantage though as it features one RPG trope an episode. An example of this would be where the girls find themselves without funds, but decide that since they are heroes they can walk casually into anyone’s house and search through all their stuff. This is something you do in video games and it’s hilarious watching it play it out as the families just allow it. The clever situations Bikini Warriors choose to feature an episode on are all well thought out and bring some feeling of nostalgia.
Through all the RPG references Bikini Warriors is also an ecchi. Very often I was met with a well placed branch or perfectly fallen lock of hair as the heroes clothes seemed to fall off at some point in every episode. I would usually get bored of this over used means of gaining viewership, no story, but lots of “plot”, but Bikini Warriors seems to benefit from it’s four minute air time and not become an unstructured mess. With that said, I found myself laughing at the situations the girls get into quiet often and I also enjoyed guessing which RPG they are referencing in a few of the episodes. I understand that Bikini Warriors will not be an anime talked about in a year, but it is definitely one I’m enjoying right now.
