Well, this is interesting. You don’t normally see Square Enix having their own conference at E3. However, you don’t normally see a lot of things that have been going on this year.
Anyways, Square Enix made a splash last night with reveals for a new Hitman, World of Final Fantasy, and the Final Fantasy VII remake. In addition, they have a new Deus Ex game coming soon and Bravely Second being localized. We hope to hear more about all five of these today. But what else does the publisher have in store? Let’s find out.
Up first is Just Cause 3. This is the next game in this series, 5 years after Just Cause 2, and looks to have all the awesome combat stuff you expect. For those that aren’t familiar, this is a sandbox game featuring a lot of action. Square Enix promises support for the game to be longer than in previous entries. It will launch on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 December 1st, 2015.
Following this, we have the announcement of a new installment for NieR. It is a title being developed by PlatinumGames and features work from people behind Final Fantasy, Bravely Default, Tekken, Drakengard, and Metal Gear Rising. Not much is known other than it will be coming to PS4 and production has recently started.
After that is a new look at Rise of the Tomb Raider, the Xbox One exclusive sequel to the Tomb Raider reboot. Crystal Dynamics showed some behind the scenes footage, showing how they designed the game. The game will be releasing on November 10th, 2015.
Then there is talk about mobile game development from Square Enix Montreal. Specifically, they revealed a new mobile game called Lara Craft Go, part of the Go series of mobile games that includes Hitman Go. The game will feature turn-based gameplay.
Moving on, we get a quick montage of games coming. Here’s a quick list.
- Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensword
- Life is Strange
- Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below
After that bit of… interesting, we see the trailer from Final Fantasy VII remake we saw last night. More is expected to be talked about later, with a tease of Winter for when more information will come. iOS will also be getting a port of the PC port.
Following Final Fantasy VII, we get a look at a mobile game for the Kingdom Hearts series, titled Kingdom Hearts Unchained X (pronounced Key). It will be a turn-based game featuring several characters from the series. It will be coming to iOS and Android.
Continuing with more Kingdom Hearts talk, we get a look at Kingdom Hearts III. The game will feature some new Disney movies, such as Tangled. The world premiere trailer was also shown, featuring some new gameplay footage. It also featured a pair of characters playing chess, although I’m not sure if they were new or returning characters.
Moving past Kingdom Hearts, we get some details on World of Final Fantasy, another game premiered at the Sony conference last night. This game was created in a way to bring gamers that maybe were turned off by the massive history of the series into the fold. A unique system of towers, dealing with your character and its mount, will determine how you play. Look for this game sometime next year.
Following this is Hitman (confirmed title). This new installment will feature things like limited time assassinations that you only have one shot at getting right. The game will release digitally on December 8th, 2015.
Up next is another montage. Here are the games shown this time:
- Hitman: Sniper
- Triad Wars
- Final Fantasy XV
Up next is a project collaboration with tri-Ace, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness. This is a PS4 title that was originally announced back in April for Japan. A world premiere gameplay trailer was shown as well, showing off the world and combat in the game. Look for it in 2016.
We then come to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. This is the newest game in the Deus Ex franchise. This story takes place 2 years after Human Revolution and seems to focus on a rebellion against augmented humans. New enhancements will also be available for the player to try out this time around. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will release in 2016.
Finishing the conference, we have a new RPG project developed by the new studio Tokyo RPG Factory. This new game is still in the early development stages and will be part of a completely new series. Currently, it is codenamed Project SETSUNA. Global release is planned for 2016.
And with the final montage showing, this concludes the Square Enix conference. What are your opinions on it? Let us know in the comments below.
