The “D23 Expo” series of Disney fan conventions is returning to Japan. The D23 Expo is the convention series of Disney D23 – a Disney-sponsored and managed fan club organization. The Expo conventions take place every other year, and while the first Expo started in 2009 in California (and continues to this year,) the first Japanese D23 Expo was held in 2013 and apparently more than 23,000 people attended. This year, D23 Expo Japan 2015 will take place from November 6 to November 8 at the Tokyo Disney Resort.
Hoping for some Kingdom Hearts news? It’s not out of the question. At the 2013 Expo, there was a special stage event dedicated to the Kingdom Hearts series that featured attendance from voice actors, video game composer Yoko Shimomura, series director Tetsuya Nomura and several other notable persons associated with the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix was announced there, and a gameplay video of Kingdom Hearts III was also shown off. This year a fan event tentatively called “Kingdom Hearts – The Theater” will be held at the Tokyo Disney Resort on November 3, though in a location separate from the greater D23 Expo 2015. More detailed program information is scheduled to be released during late April.
In case anyone may be wondering, the D23 Expo Japan 2015 announcement page linked below states that Marvel and Star Wars attractions will be present.
