In their recent Prinny Bomb news post, NIS America announced plans to release a dubbed version of the anime Nagi no Asukara, entitled A Lull in the Sea. This marks only the second time NIS America has given a dub for their licensed anime, the first of which was their 2014 re-release of Toradora! on Blu-ray and DVD, as they often opt to release only subbed versions of their licensed anime. A Lull in the Sea will receive a premium Blu-ray box set, including all 26 episodes, a 2-disc soundtrack, and a 76-page art book. Check out the trailer and plot synopsis below:
“Long ago, all humans lived in the ocean. But some who longed for the land abandoned the ocean, casting off the special raiments granted to them by the sea god to adapt them to life under the sea…
Though mankind was divided into sea dwellers and land dwellers, each with different ways of thinking, they were all still fellow humans, and they continued to maintain contact as time went on.
Sakishima Hikari, Mukaido Manaka, Hiradaira Chisaki, and Isaki Kaname live in an undersea village, while Kihara Tsumugu lives on land.
When these middle school second-year land and sea dwellers meet for the first time, their hearts begin to undulate like the tides.
The youthful fantasy tale of these young people’s lives unfolds in a strange and beautiful world.”
Synopsis via Crunchyroll
A Lull in the Sea is a romance/fantasy anime that aired in Japan between October 2013 and April 2014. This release will be dual language, so those who experienced A Lull in the Sea via streaming sources like Crunchyroll can still listen to the anime with the original Japanese dub. It is nice to see companies appease both dub and sub lovers, at the very least. Hopefully this is something NIS America does more, if only for variety’s sake. The box set releases on June 30, 2015.
