Inti Creates’ English Facebook and Twitter accounts for Azure Striker Gunvolt have confirmed a sequel to the Nintendo 3DS action platformer. The news comes off of the heels of Inti Creates Fan Festa 2015, taking place today in Japan. The website for Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 (which will release on 3DS) is already up, though as of this article’s publishing the Inti Creates servers are apparently overwhelmed and the site can’t be accessed. A piece of artwork (shown above) for an as-of-yet unidentifiable character is already out along with the news. It’s not clear who the character might be; the blonde hair and blue outfit recall Gunvolt but it may not necessarily be him. We’ll learn more as Inti Creates speaks about the game.
Inti Creates is a fairly busy independent game developer in Japan. They may be most easily recognized for developing the six titles that comprise the Mega Man Zero and Mega Man ZX series from Capcom. They also worked on Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 and are in the process of assisting Keiji Inafune and Comcept on the Mega Man-inspired Mighty No. 9. They’ve also on occasion developed games for anime properties like Naruto and Crayon Shin-Chan. Recently, IntiCreates assisted with development on newer entries of WayForward’s platforming franchise, Shantae (Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, Shantae: Half Genie Hero.)
Azure Striker Gunvolt receiving a sequel is quite notable for the company. As a self-published and localized title, it secured 90,000 downloads as of the start of January 2015, according to Inti Creates’ English Twitter page for the Gunvolt franchise. Releases in Brazil and Australia are still to come, too. The IP is also completely owned by Inti Creates, and considering that the franchise is a 2D action-platformer (may be safe for established franchises, but hard for new franchises to break through), it’s an interesting success story. As it is, the Inti Creates Fan Festa 2015 is apparently the first fan convention for Inti Creates.
We’ll be sure to update you about Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 as soon as we can get to the Inti Creates site.
