Wii U | Media Create

Is it too early to get worried that the holiday bump won’t happen this year? Obviously, holidays are different in Japan than they are here in the States, but when should we be expecting this? I’m worried because it seems like Nintendo needs help in every region to get the Wii U off the ground. The good news: Super Smash Bros for Wii U releases soon in all regions. The bad news: the lack of high end third party gaming, the terrible marketing, the fact that it’s a home console in a handheld market, etc., I could be here all day saying what’s wrong with the Wii U. There is a silver lining; the Wii U is within striking distance of 2 million. That has to count for something.

New Nintendo 3DS | Media Create

On the other side of the charts is the 3DS, combining for over 140,000 the last two weeks and moving into striking distance of the Game Boy Advance for 8th place all-time in the region. It also looks to hit the 17 million mark next week.

Only one new game in the Top 20 for the first week with The LEGO Movie Video Game on 3DS and Wii U. The game also had releases on PS4 and PS3, though neither made the Top 20. Also new but outside the Top 20 was Cooking Mama: Watashi no Sweets Shop, which will probably be localized as Cooking Mama 6.

Moving on to the next week, the top winner was Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, netting two of the top 3 spots and 3 ports in the Top 20. The Top 20 also saw the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection and the latest installment in Konami’s soccer franchise, World Soccer Winning Eleven 2015.

For games that are of interest here, we start with the 3DS game One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X, the latest game in the franchise by Bandai Namco. This is a fighting game that features 2 on 2 tag battle between 85 characters. It’s possible that it could release here, but I wouldn’t hold my breath until it comes.

Next, we have Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax from SEGA. This is a cross-over game that features characters from light novels printed under the Dengeki Bunco label. Franchises included in this game are Virtua Fighter, Sword Art Online, Valkyria Chronicles, Durarara!!, and Shakugan no Shana. I doubt we’ll get this, but it is on import-friendly consoles.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker | Media Create

Then there is Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, which launched next month in North America. It’s nice to see it in the Top 20, but the overall numbers seem really disappointing.

Further down the list, we have Hanayamata: Yosakoi Live! This is a adventure/rhythm game based on the HaNaYaMaTa series. Again, same boat as the fighting game above. If you want to experience the franchise, you can always go to Crunchyroll and watch the anime.

Finally, we have Marginal#4: Idol of Supernova, the latest game from Idea Factory. This is an otome game with surprisingly little about it in English. From the trailer, it looks like it deals with members of a boy band, but I could be wrong about that.

Mario Kart 8 - Mercedes-Benz DLC | Media Create

As for returning games, there’s really only one thing of note, and that is Mario Kart 8, which has been experiencing growths over the past two weeks, including an over 300% increase last week. That, however, could be from the new Mario Kart 8 bundle that released last week in the region.
