Another week in the Media Create charts, another good performance from the 3DS. The console had solid week from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, and Yo-kai Watch 2. In addition, the New 3DS and New 3DSLL have continue to push the hardware numbers, combining for nearly 90,000 units between the two. If it keeps up, the 3DS will easily pass 17 million units sold in the region before the year is out.
For other hardware, the Vita has returned to its regular second place spot, but that seems more of a formality given how big of a gap the 3DS has on the rest of the field. The good news is that the Vita has secured 5 of the Top 20 spots, including the two new releases that made the field.
The first is Chaos Ring III: Prequel Trilogy from Square Enix. This is an RPG that takes place in a world where adventures are seeking the “Marble Blue,” also known as the gateway to the heavens. Despite its name, it is actually the fourth game in the series. It also released on iOS and Android, like its predecessors, however it is the first to release on Vita. It’s unclear if this will be localized, but at least two games have made it over to the West.
The second game is Amnesia Later x Crowd: V Edition from Idea Factory. This is a Vita version (and sort of compilation) of the visual novel titles Amnesia Later and Amnesia Crowd. These titles initially released on the PSP in 2012 and 2013 respectively. While I doubt they will be localized, it is possible, assuming Idea Factory wants to expand that brand into the West.
Meanwhile, the Wii U continues to fall while simultaneously closing the gap on last year’s YTD numbers. And the PS4 fell back after what seemed to be a FIFA jump. Over on games, no known milestones have been reached, but we do see the return of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Toukiden: The Age of Demons Extreme, and Pokemon X & Y.
