Rounding out the end of the Hyrule Warriors Nintendo Direct, Eiji Aonuma closed things with a quick gameplay trailer showcasing the abilities of the Gerudo King himself, Ganondorf. Sporting a completely new look with long, flowing hair and decked out in armor, Ganondorf looks to be a proper force of devastation on the battlefield.
To go along with his terrifying new look, Ganondorf wields the Great Sword, a pair huge blades that seem to have both power and range on their side. Additionally, Ganondorf uses powerful magical projectiles to damage enemies from a distance, as well as area-of-effect attacks in the form of phantom monsters to lay waste to groups of enemy combatants.
Also during the Direct, it was revealed that other villain characters would be playable, as well. Of special note here were Zant, the villain from Twilight Princess, and Ghiraihim from Skyward Sword. Both seem to fight similarly to how they worked in their respective games. Zant seems to have a very quick and unpredictable set of abilities, while Ghirahim wields his Demon Blade with the same ferocity seen in Skyward Sword. Additionally, Ghirahim appears to be able to transform into his special armored form — likely as part of his Focus Spirit ability showcased during the Nintendo Direct. It might seem like obvious news, but it’s always fun to see more playable characters revealed.
The Nintendo Direct was certainly a big hype generator, and seeing how these new characters play was definitely the highlight for me. With the release date steadily getting closer, as well as pre-order bonuses in the works, the wait is only getting harder!
