These numbers are just depressing. I wonder how much of this is the new tax laws and how much is just gamers not liking what’s there.
Pokemon Art Academy is the top game this week, just edging out million seller Yo-kai Watch. The game was also being given away for free to new 3DSLL owners. However, with Famitsu having the same numbers as Media Create (Famitsu includes digital sales), it’s tough to say if these were total numbers or just physical numbers. Pokemon Art Academy will release next month in Europe and later this year in North America.
Second new game this week in the Top 20 is htoL#NiQ: Hotaru no Nikki from Nippon Ichi Software. This is a new IP from the team that worked on Disgaea. It should be noted that the sales numbers for this game are for a limited edition physical copy, as Hotaru no Nikki is primarily a digital title for the Vita. It’s unclear if this game will be coming West.
The final new game in the Top 20 is the Bandai Namco PS3 game CV: Casting Voice. The game has you play the role of a producer for various projects that require voice actors. Your job is to cast parts for anime and live-action projects, which can even include yourself as you can record your voice into the game. Scripts from the Tales series are included, as well as DLC for the IDOLM@STER and God Eater games, with more expected later.
As for returning games, Mario Kart 8 placed in third this week, dropping another 33% from its weekly sales total. I’m not quite ready to scratch it off the list of Wii U games that could sell the console, but it needs to stop the bleeding if it’s going to sell the game on its own.
Farther down the list, we have Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth at fifth place, moving just under 12,000 units in a week. Overall, the game has moved 230,307 units. The game will be coming to North America and Europe (via NIS America) later this year.
Finally, the PS3 is one week away from passing the 10 million mark for units sold in the Japanese region. Meanwhile, the PS Vita is closing in on 3 million lifetime sales in the region. It should also be noted that the Vita is Sony’s best selling console in Japan this year (just edging out the PS4 by 9,000) as well as the only non-new console that has an increase from last year at the six month mark.
