A bit of an odd week. Today, we have four crowdfunding campaigns for games that had already gone through the process. Only one — Hurricane Paisley — failed in their previous attempt. The other three — Anima: Gate of Memories, Dieselstormers, and The Meridian Shard — are asking for help with one thing or another.

I don’t have a problem with this. Things happen. And besides, Star Citizen has been in perpetual crowdfunding since the game was revealed back in 2012. It just seems odd that three campaigns that are asking for more money would appear in the same Last Call article.

Anyways, here are the projects that are in their last 10 days of funding. As always, you can use the Quick Navigation tool to take you to a specific page.

LAST CALL FOR FUNDING - 8 Bit Kingdoms | oprainfall

8 Bit Kingdoms

  • Goal: $900 CAD
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, Android

From the Kickstarter page:

A multiplayer real time strategy war game inspired by HBO’s award winning series Game of Thrones!

8 Bit Kingdoms is an upcoming multiplayer real time strategy war game for PC, MAC, Linux, and Mobile (IOS/Android). We began this project last year with the intent to make it a simple war game for your internet browser. However, the more we worked on it, the more ideas came to us and it continued to grow. Keep in mind that what you see here today is only a taste of what the game has to offer, we love the feeling of discovering something new and that’s why we will not be revealing too much at this time. We are saving that excitement for future updates and the game’s final release!

In 8 Bit Kingdoms, you are a ruler in the land of Leftos striving for total domination across the land. Take the classic military approach and destroy anyone who opposes you or construct the King’s Throne to silence your enemies. Be careful though, enemy spies can sabotage your production! How you achieve victory is up to you, just understand the path to rule is never a clean one. The main objective in this game is not necessarily to take out your opponent by yourself, but to outlast them; build a great stronghold and buy time until winter comes so Ice Zmbies can overrun your enemies for you!

LAST CALL FOR FUNDING: A Song for Viggo

A Song for Viggo

  • Goal: $20,000
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS

From the Kickstarter page:

A Song for Viggo

… is an adventure, through a world which after a terrible tragedy, is revealed to be as thin as paper. You play a father who accidentally kills his son and then has to keep on living, even though everything crumbles around him.

Your first mission is to arrange your son’s funeral. You are going to have to do it alone, because your wife, Karen, went into a deep depression following the death of Viggo.

This is the type of challenge you will have to face in this game.

Your goal is to maintain everyday life, despite the tragic circumstances. Be there for your daughter. Put food on the table. Do the dishes. Keep your marriage together. The struggles are of a psychological, rather than mechanical, nature. There is only one puzzle. It’s called life.

A Song for Viggo contains five chapters, each one revolving around a different one of the difficulties you can experience after losing a child – such as marital problems, depression and suicidal thoughts. In order to portray this as credible as possible I have interviewed several people who have lost their children (even some who share Steve’s fate.) It’s one of my goals with the game; to bring their stories to you, to make people who may be in this situation – trying to maintain their everyday life in the wake of a disaster – feel that they are not alone.

It is a story that tries to discuss things we don’t normally talk to each other about. It is an investigation of the nature of depression – one of the world’s main public diseases. And it is, indeed, about a simple fact:

Even after the end, everything continues.

You can also help this game by supporting it on Steam Greenlight.

Anima: Gate of Memories

Anima: Gate of Memories – Extended Campaign

  • Goal: £15,000
  • Platforms: Steam (Windows, Mac OS, Linux), possible console ports

From the Kickstarter page:

After a successful campaign, this is the second Kickstarter that we do for Gate of Memories. In our previous one we obtained all we could need to create the game, but the reason why we decided to start this new one is not because we are unable to complete it; our true goal is simply to make Gate of Memories even better.

Very often people asked us how we could make a game with the visual quality of Gate of Memories with a limited budget like we have. The secret is simple; with a lot of personal sacrifice and enthusiasm to do our best, reasons why we are in front of the monitor countless hours each day.

However, there are limitations that can not be avoided even with all our effort and desire, and there are many things we would like to be able to do to further improve Gate of Memories.

That’s why we need your support, as just a little more would allow us to go much further than where we are right now. With the whole basis of the game done, we plan to use these additional funds to design new scenarios, new enemies and Messengers to face, as well as improving the soundtrack and voice effects; ultimately, to make an even better gaming experience.

LAST CALL FOR FUNDING: Beloved Rapture

Beloved Rapture

  • Goal: $2,300
  • Platform: PC

From the Kickstarter page:

In the kingdom of Alexandria, an enigmatic terror looms over the peaceful denizens in the form of the Aeons – a cult-like militia devoted to bringing about what is known as the “Rapture”; unleashing an ancient force upon the innocent and otherwise harmonious people.

The three heroes are drawn together by fate as their destinies unify them against the impending threat, conjuring many enduring and intimate friendships, as well as destructive betrayals.

  • Evocative storytelling that spans many hours and dynamic character scenarios.
  • Final Fantasy-esque, turn-based battle system – face off against many challenging enemies & bosses to gain new skills.
  • Endless replay value: dozens of chests, items, and small secrets hidden on every map!
  • Extensive soundtrack that boats many beautifully composed original tracks & sound effects.
  • Simple and intuitive controls allowing high accessibility for players of all skill levels.

Beloved Rapture is a personal tribute to the classic SNES and PS1-era RPGs that I thoroughly enjoyed as a child, but it is also very much its own creation, offering twists on familiar formulas. After many years of development turmoil, I’m happy to finally kickstart development back toward completion.
