Well, the top of the software side of the Media Create charts isn’t surprising, especially with Nintendo reporting that Mario Kart 8 had sold 1.2 million worldwide. What is surprising is that it didn’t move more Wii U units. It’s hard not to call a game a system seller when it moves 325,000 software units in four days. But when the game can only add 10,000 sold units from the previous week, you do have to question whether it deserves that tag.
As for the rest of the hardware line-up, only the 3DS and and Xbox 360 experienced a bump last week. All of Sony’s consoles fell a bit. However, the increase in Wii U sales pushed the overall numbers up about 8,000.
Over on software, Mario Kart 8 obviously won. Second place also saw a newcomer from a long running franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam: Side Stories. This is the latest game in the long running Gundam franchise, releasing on the PS3 with 82,000 units sold.
Next new game is Chō Megami Shinkō Noire: Gekishin Black Heart, a tactical RPG for the PS Vita. This is a spin-off of the Hyperdimension Neptunia games, featuring chibi version of the Neptunia characters and starring Noire. No word yet on if this is coming over, but, given the series’ history of localizations, we should expect to hear something.
Entering in 9th is Arcana Heart 3: Love Max!!!!! from Arc System Works. This is a console port of the upgraded arcade version of Arcana Heart 3, which released worldwide in 2011. While Vita and PS3 ports were made, only the PS3 version made the list. They are expected to release in North America this Fall.
Next, from visual novel developer QuinRose is Heart no Kuni no Alice: Wonderful Twin World. This is the latest release in the Alice in the Country of Hearts series of visual novels, which are a re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. No VN in this series has been localized, so you’ll need to import if you want to experience it.
The final new game this week is Nobunaga’s Ambition: Creation for the Vita. This is a port of the PS3 game that released late last year. It is also the 14th game in the Nobunaga’s Ambition series, which first started on the PC back in 1983. There don’t seem to be plans for a Western release, so you will probably need to import the game to play it.
As for returning games, we do have a milestone to celebrate. Yo-kai Watch has surpassed 1 million units sold in Japan. This comes almost a year after its initial release as well as one month before its sequel games release.
