RPG Maker is well known and somewhat infamous in game creation. On the one hand, it’s incredibly simple to use, so even people with no programming experience at all can start down the path of making the RPG of their dreams. On the other, it is so easy to use, that there are a lot of bad games using this engine. So much so that “it looks like an RPG Maker game” is a common critique of indie RPGs. But maybe you’re a member of the unwashed masses who haven’t tried RPG Maker. If so, you might want to consider picking it up now. So what if you never use it? It’s for charity, right?
In the basic tier, we have the most recent edition of RPG Maker, RPG Maker VX Ace. It also comes with a DLC bundle (containing Royal Tiles Resource Pack, Adventurer’s Journey, and Tyler Warren’s First 50 Battler Pack resources), and Skyborn, Sweet Lily Dreams, and a bundle of four free games (exciting, I know). I know nothing about these, but since RPG Maker VX Ace is normally $69.99, a $1 contribution to this tier would be a stellar value, regardless of the quality of the games.
In the $6 tier, we have RPG Maker XP, the previous edition of RPG Maker. Why is it in the $6 tier instead of the basic tier? Not a clue. But this does come with the stellar To the Moon, and that alone is worth $6. Also, it comes with an exclusive resource pack, another DLC Bundle (this time containing High Fantasy Resource Pack 1, High Fantasy Main Party Pack 1, The Futuristic Tiles Resource Pack, The Inspirational Music Pack Volume 1, Tyler Warren’s Second 50 Battler Pack, and the exclusive Steampunk/Western Preview), Deadly Sin 2, and another four pack of free games.
And finally, the $12 tier. It includes the Game Character Hub, which allows you to easily create sprites for use in RPG Maker (XP and VX editions), normally $14.99. It also comes with a third DLC bundle (this time including Zombie Survival Graphic Pack, Rural Farm Tiles Resource Pack, All Music Sampler, and Best of Member+ Resource Sampler), and Legionwood 2: Rise of the Eternal’s Realm.
If you’re at all interested in RPG development, I’d jump on this. RPG Maker is not hard to learn, and this may be the best price you are ever going to get. If you’re not sure about this bundle, be sure to check out the RPG Maker VX Ace free weekend on Steam. The sale ends on June 5th.
