Goal $20,000 and Under

Astraea

  • Goal: $10,000 CAD
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Oculus Rift support

From the Kickstarter page:

What is Astraea?

Astraea is an open ended multiplayer sandbox game that lets you build a town, run a farm and make lots of friends!

The game starts you off in an empty plot of land filled with trees, stone and water. Right from the start, players are guided through a very short tutorial on how to do basic tasks (build a house, name their town, etc). After that, players can do as they please!

Barony
Barony

  • Goal: $8,000
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, Linux

From the Kickstarter page:

Welcome to Barony

Barony is a rogue-like romp through the vast subterranean complex known as the Devil’s Bastion. You are an adventurer tasked with the destruction of the Baron Herx, an evil lich responsible for terrorizing the world above. Make your way through procedurally generated levels filled with a diverse array of friends, foes, challenges and cubetastic new scenery. The game is primarily inspired by first-person RPGs of the early 90s, such as Ultima Underworld, System Shock, and Daggerfall. The game is being developed for Windows, Mac and Linux.

“bob’s game”

  • Goal: $10,000
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Android

From the Kickstarter page:

“bob’s game” is a forerunner and founder of the indie games movement, originally announced in 2008 for the Nintendo DS, campaigning against the treatment of developers by the big console companies, and overshadowed by the incredible success of Minecraft and games like Angry Birds on the iPhone App Store.

Developed from scratch in C and completely rewritten in Java as an MMO, as far as I can tell, “bob’s game” may still be one of the largest games (if not the largest) by one person!

ButtonMasher

  • Goal: $2,500
  • Platform: iOS

From the Kickstarter page:

Remember how demoralizing it was when your younger brother beat you at chess? He was five, you were ten? Do you remember how your sister beat you in the 100 meter race at the school fair in front of all your friends? Do you remember your mom slam-dunking the basketball over you when you were 16??! Well now is your time to show them who’s boss! ButtonMasher is a game to rekindle old rivalries with friends and family! Show your brother he’s not as smart as he thinks he is. Earn the right to say “take that, grandma!” as you smash her in multiplayer mode. Show your sister that it’s the speed of your brain that matters… not your, uh, legs… you see where we’re going with this.

ButtonMasher is about 80% finished. Even the online component is complete! We want to add dubstep tracks, animation, visual effects, and a few more features. Essentially, we want to make this game the best it can be… but we lack the financial means to do so.

We are a two man studio who want to start building games for a living. At this point all we need are tools for the illustrator/musician! 100% of your contributions will go directly towards tools.

Drugtown
Drugtown

  • Goal: £12,000
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, Linux

From the Kickstarter page:

We are raising money to create Drugtown, the first sandbox game about narcotics. Rather than having missions like the stereotypical ‘collect the package and deliver it’, Drugtown will focus on the little interactions which make up this shady business.

  • Grow and manufacture anything from weed to LSD
  • Weigh your produce into bags, wraps or jars
  • The option to cut drugs to increase your profit but at risk of angering customers
  • Sell your produce for big money
  • An intelligent police system which adapts to how much attention you create
  • Recruit dudes into your crew and put them to work
  • Acquire property and use it for business or your personal space
  • Rival gangs that will try to end your operation
  • The most realistic drug trade simulator ever created!

The Floating World - Village (Prototype)
Village (prototype)

The Floating World

  • Goal: $5,000 CAD
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS

From the Kickstarter page:

The Floating World is a game about being confused. Clement Barbour, the player character, has washed ashore of Edo-period Japan. Although fluent in English, all those around him can only communicate in Japanese. Clement must learn to communicate with the locals in order to return home. Featuring beautiful hand drawn art based upon ukiyo-e and real world locations, The Floating World aims to transport the player to a time and place unique to a video game world. Utilizing a three Act story, The Floating World will be released in three installments.

Edo Japan was a beautiful place. The art and culture were so vastly different than the rest of the world. The Floating World recreates Edo Japan using the ukiyo-e art style. A style not commonly used outside of its traditional implementation, ukiyo-e is the perfect encapsulation of Edo period Japan. Featuring unique hand drawn art based upon real world locations and custom animation, The Floating World breathes life into a, formerly still, art style.

Hurricane Paisley - Concept Art
Concept Art

Hurricane Paisley

  • Goal: $4,000 AUD
  • Platform: Windows

From the Kickstarter page:

Hurricane Paisley has been a pet project of mine for over 4 years. It emerged from two characters I created to be my alter egos and bloomed into a story of love, devotion and courage.

Cross-Archer Studios is me, myself and I for the most part, with a little help from my programming friends. Hurricane Paisley was due to be released last year, but failed due to lack of funding and I could not complete the project. This is why I appeal to the kickstarter community, so that we might make Hurricane Paisley become a truly successful visual novel.

Hurricane Paisley is an anime-style visual novel, which will feature an in-depth storyline, great characters and beautiful cinematic artworks.

Inspire Me
Inspire Me

  • Goal: $20,000
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Android, iOS

From the Kickstarter page:

Ideas. Little moments of inspiration that can change it all. Are they really born? Do they come to you blowing in the wind? Perhaps they were always there, in a corner of your mind just waiting for you to look closer…

Inspire Me is a point-and-click adventure about a naughty kid that may have changed the world’s history forever with his monkey business.

You must travel back in time and solve a series of puzzles while bringing inspiration to the greatest minds to turn the things back into their right course.

We will never know for sure why or how these thoughts actually became the real deal, but with your help -and a little pinch of humour!-, the world will still have its treasures and you will be there to witness the birth of some of the most amazing ideas!

Check out the demo on the Kickstarter page.

Kings of Kung Fu
Kings of Kung Fu

  • Goal: $5,000
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, Linux

From the Kickstarter page:

Kings of Kung Fu is passion project, a love letter to martial arts cinema, a project born out of a lifelong love of Martial arts films. These films were a major part of my childhood. I always wanted to see the best styles in Martial Arts films in one game. Imagine Jeet Kune Do style vs Drunken Boxing or Shaolin Hung Gar style vs Wing Chun. The possibilities are endless, and now for the first time ever you can see your favorite movie fighting styles in one game.

After years of countless fighting games and their sequels I have yet to find a game that marries the two genres seamlessly. A year ago I decided to take matters into my own hands, and thus Kings of Kung Fu was born. Kings of Kung fu is a game created by a martial arts film fan for martial arts film fans. A game that treats the subject matter with the passion and reverence it deserves. There are no over the top powers or character designs but more accurate features that we come to expect from the genre that we love so dearly.

RATS - Time is Running Out!
RATS – Time is running out!

  • Goal: $20,000 CAD
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, Linus, iOS, Android

From the Kickstarter page:

RATS is a bank robbery game in which the player progresses in a world where time is of the essence; every second counts!

This game gives you the opportunity to live a bank robber’s life from the strategic management of time to the excitement of a robbery.

The mission? Retrieve the money from the pigs without being caught by the cats or the roosters!

Basically it’s action, survival, cheese and strategy all wrapped up in a small package!

The Runners

  • Goal: $1,000
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android

From the Kickstarter page:

The Runners is a 2.5D mobile action-adventure game which follows in the spirit of the metroidvania genre, while incorporating elements from the stealth and survival-horror genres. You take the role of Newman, who is stranded in Tesla 101 and must seek to stand his ground against the aggressive robots that patrol the city. This game arose out of our desire to create an immersive narrative sci-fi experience on the phone that we just don’t believe is fulfilled by any other game on the market. So for the past year, we have been hard at work at developing the game. The entire time, we’ve been striving for this feeling of scavenging and exploring the city, all while using your wits to overcome the enemies who oppose you. Now, as we begin to have this feeling be realized by the game, we’re asking for your help to make the fully fleshed-out experience.

Space Clunker

  • Goal: $2,500
  • Platforms: iOS, Android

From the Kickstarter page:

What is Space Clunker?

Space clunker is my take of an space shooter type of game with an twist. It is something different and unexpected then what you may be use to. Unlike other similar games, you can’t just pilot just any spaceship, your only chance to survive in space is to take control of this used up / beat up spaceship that’s barely able to stay up in space, let alone be of any use to defend against incoming asteroids and enemy spaceships.

You can find a demo on the Kickstarter page.

Star Legacy
Star Legacy

  • Goal: $10,000
  • Platforms: Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android

From the Kickstarter page:

In the future a Universal Government has taken control, a brutal and vicious tyranny which spreads like a virus throughout the Universe.

The leaders and origins of the Universal Government remains a mystery. They are invisible, untraceable, and therefor untouchable. The historical records were destroyed, and their opposition slaughtered as they rose to power many centuries ago.

The only evidence proving their existence is known as the “Space Police”. The greatest army ever assembled, the Space Police conquer the Universe with seemingly infinite resources at their disposal. They invade any planet of strategic value, killing any life forms unfit for slave labor.

They have even been known to unleash dangerous alien species such as the “Mantis” upon peaceful worlds. Millions of innocent deaths are followed by the immediate arrival of the Space Police. By then resistance is futile, some may even believe that the Space Police arrived to rescue them.

It is an age of desperation, countless planets battling to survive against impossible odds. If only there was someone who stood a fighting chance to defend the weak against this overwhelming evil…

TACo
TACo

  • Goal: $6,000
  • Platform: Browser

From the Kickstarter page:

TACo (short for Todos Amamos Comida or We All Love Food) is a browser-based, resource management, strategy game based loosely on the award winning board game The Settlers of Catan(c). In TACo there’s a city full of hungry people and four enterprising people who want to start up franchises of food kiosks. Will you beat out the competition?

The first incarnation of TACo (then called MuCo) was built and playtested in the spring of 2013. Back then it was something that I was building and testing for my dissertation. Before building this game I researched extensively how to design commercial video games as well as how to design the best possible tools for teaching vocabulary. All this research has allowed me to create and refine something new; the next step in serious gaming: A game that is both genuinely entertaining and genuinely educational!
