Well, whenever the Vita won a week in the Media Create charts in the past, I would put up that image of Muhammad Ali as a Vita knocking out Sonny Liston as a 3DS, with Kaz and Reggie looking on. But there are a couple of reasons why it won’t be showing up today. First, the 3DS actually won Famitsu‘s charts, which makes the Vita’s victory not as clear-cut as it could’ve been. Second, with the way consoles are getting hammered—losing 18% of sales from last week and 53% from two weeks ago—the more accurate picture would be of Ali and Joe Frazier at the end of “The Thrilla in Manila.”
For new games being released this week, we start with the first- and second-place ports of 3rd Super Robot Wars Z: Jigoku-Hen, the latest release in the franchise and the third game in the Super Robot Wars Z sub-series. If you’re a fan of the series and want this game, you will need to import. Only two games from the franchise came to the West, and neither was published by Bandai Namco. (Atlus handled publishing duties for Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 1 and 2 for the GBA.)
Coming in at 5th place with 16,409 units sold is the latest game in the Crayon Shin-chan franchise. For those not familiar with the franchise, Crayon Shin-chan follows the adventures of a five-year-old named Shinnosuke Nohara (nicknamed Shin). It started as a manga that ran from 1990–2010. (A New Crayon Shin-chan manga took its place afterward.) It also has an anime that has been running for 823 episodes and counting. It’s not coming over, so if you’re looking to import, remember that the 3DS is region-locked.
Next is Mato Kurenai Tuugekitai: Tokyo Twilight Ghosthunters. This game was developed by some of the people behind Deadly Premonition, with music done by Nobuo Uematsu and The Key Project. The game has you as a transfer student of Kurenai Academy who learns of his ability to sense spirits, leading you to exterminate said spirits. I doubt this will be heading West, so you’ll probably need to import if you want it.
Titanfall is the final new release on the charts. The mech shooter has already been released in the West. I know there are a few people on staff who enjoy it, so…yeah. Not much else to say.
For returning games, Yo-kai Watch led the way with nearly 34,000 units sold, topping the 700,000 lifetime mark. Samurai Warriors 4 has combined for 280,000 lifetime sales, putting it around 40,000 behind the Wii’s Samurai Warriors 3. J-Stars Victory Vs has combined for over 300,000 for its ports. And Fossil Fighters continues to find a spot in the Top 20, moving nearly 6,000 units for a lifetime total of 136,033.
