UEMATSU BRACKET
- 1. Sephiroth defeats 16. Zio with 76% of the vote
He may have had a more difficult time than the rest of the top seeds, but Sephiroth was able to pull of the victory. It’ll be interesting to see how voters feel about him in later matches, but we’ll get to that when we…get…to that.
- 9. Dragon God defeats 8. Lorithia by 4 votes
Between Dickson and Lorithia losing in Round 1, this one surprised me more. After all, Lorithia committed genocide in one of the most bizarre and disturbing ways possible. But you have to give credit where credit is due—the Dragon God is a good villain and earned its spot in the next round because of that.
- 5. Garland defeats 12. Dhaos with 70% of the vote
In a battle of originals, it was the Final Fantasy villain who won out. (Go figure.) For the record, all Final Fantasy villains made it into the second round (which should give you an idea of how the rest of those match-ups fared).
- 4. Diablo defeats 13. Corvus by 2 votes
This was close throughout. Corvus had the lead for most of the battle, but then Diablo took the lead on the last day and never gave it back. Sadly, this is the closest any Dragon Quest villain got to the second round.
- 6. Zophar defeats 11. Macha with 72% of the vote
The God of Evil made easy work of the Temptress. This run might not last long, but it was fun to watch this go down.
- 14. Lehran defeats 3. Saren Arterius with 70% of the vote
This was only an upset on paper. Lehran is one of the most popular characters from the Tellius Fire Emblem games. But I am a little surprised that Saren didn’t get more support.
- 10. Fawful defeats 7. General Hugo by 7 votes
The fury of Fawful held off Hugo to the bitter end, taking a small lead and never letting go. Better luck some other time, Hugo.
- 2. Lavos defeats 15. Nyarlathotep with 80% of the vote
Lavos was just too much for the malevolent villain of Persona 2. The alien parasite was denied a top seed but is looking to make up for it.
ROUND 2
We’ll start to see how far Sephiroth can go with his battle against the Dragon God. Also of note, this is one of four direct match-ups between old-school Squaresoft villains.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.Diablo barely got out of his match-up with an Enix villain, but the Lord of Terror may be in over his head against the Squaresoft villains. Whether it’s here with Garland or in the next round, we’ll have to wait and see.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.Zophar may be the God of Evil, but Lehran can manipulate even the most evil characters. This will be interesting.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.Fawful may have fury, but Lavos can drain that fury in a flash.
