Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Are you all ready for some visual novel-style murder mystery? You had better be, because NIS America has announced the release date for their upcoming PlayStation Vita release of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc  in both Europe and North America. The North American release will be out on February 11th for $39.99 USD, while the European release will be out a few days later on February 14th. David Alonzo, Marketing Director for NIS America, has also hinted at the possibility of a limited edition version of the game being announced soon.

The first Danganronpa was originally released for PSP systems  in Japan. The version headed West is a Vita port of the original title that includes updated graphics, controls, and new post-game content. Alonzo describes the gameplay as “similar to the investigative nature of the Phoenix Wright series, with a dash of 999 and Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward storytelling thrown in.”

Danganronpa takes place in the elite Hope’s Peak Academy. This school is known for only admitting the best of the best; which is why ordinary high school student Makoto Naegi is surprised to find that he’s been accepted for enrollment. This good news quickly goes sour when Naegi and the rest of the school’s gifted newcomers are locked inside and told that there is only one way to leave: commit murder without getting caught. Do this, and you’ll be the lucky student who gets out alive. Get called out by your fellow classmates, and you’ll be subject to a deadly punishment. The morbid proceedings are lorded over by a bizarre robot bear named Monokuma.

Players will have to search for clues and build relationships with their fellow students in order to proceed through the game. You can check out the official release date announcement for a more detailed rundown of the game’s features.

Is this a title you’re excited to see coming to the West? Will you be pre-ordering or sitting this one out? Let us know in a comment!
