Hardware Sales

3DS 154.578
PS Vita 25.763
PS3 11.643
PSP 3.651
Wii U 2.999
Wii 806
Xbox 360 539

Well, it didn’t take too long for the Vita sales to drop again. As I said in last week’s Media Create post, neither the PCH-2000 nor Danganronpa 1 & 2 Reload have the legs to keep the Vita hardware numbers high for long. But there is still hope. While remakes don’t necessarily stay on for long, they do give a boost to sales. And if Tearaway can win buyers over, that will be a major win for Sony’s second handheld.

Wii Party U | Media Create

Speaking of consoles looking to make an impact, the Wii U continues to free fall, going below 3,000 units sold this past week. However, that should change some with the releases of three major Wii series games in the next two weeks: Wii Sports Club (10/30), Wii Party U (10/31), and Wii Fit U (10/31); all three coming off games that sold at least 3 million in the region. We’ll be able to see numbers on the software side for Wii Party U since it will be the only game that has had a physical release from the beginning. Wii Sports Club will be digital only. And while Wii Fit U will have a physical version, it will be digital-only in the region until February 2014.

Also, Sonic Lost World will release tomorrow in the region. However, since Japan hasn’t historically taken to the blue hedgehog, I don’t expect much from it.

At the top of the charts, Pokemon X & Y continue to sell, joining Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mario Kart 7, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and Monster Hunter 4 in Japan’s 2 million club for 3DS. It will be interesting to see which gets to 3 million first between X & Y and second place Monster Hunter 4, which sold another 100,000 units this past week to move within 250,000 of the mark.

Fairy Fencer F | Media Create

As for the rest of the chart, it was a fairly rough week for anything not named Pokemon, Monster Hunter, or Grand Theft Auto. The top new game this week, Sentouchu: Densetsu no Shinobi no Survival Battle!, sold under 45,000 units. Fairy Fencer F, one of the games we’re hoping to get a localization for, dropped 85% to sell just above 6,000 units. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon needed only 3,896 to claim the 20th spot. And except for a couple of games here and there, most everything was down.
