Fans of old-school NES beat-’em-ups, rejoice. With less than three days to go before Kickstarter funding is over, River City Ransom: Underground has achieved its funding goal of $180,000 CAD.
It was unclear for a while whether Underground, the officially licensed North American follow-up to the NES beat ‘em up RPG River City Ransom, would make its funding goal. However, the project began to regain steam the past few days as it made its way to the goal.
Along with this news comes a new update from developer Conatus Creative. It was announced last week that River City Ransom: Underground would feature a cameo from a different NES beat ‘em up classic: Double Dragon’s Abobo. How the developer plans on featuring the character is still unknown. We’ll let you know more about it as more information becomes available.
While initial funding has succeeded, there are still less than 70 hours to go before the Kickstarter campaign is over—and there are a number of stretch goals it can reach, all of which are console-based. At $205,000 CAD, the game will become playable on Macs and Linux PCs along with Windows PCs. At $280,000, PS4 and Vita will see ports of the game. Nintendo Wii U and 3DS have a stretch goal set at $320,000, but that could see a change with Nintendo planning to bring the MonoGame Framework to Wii U, which is what River City Ransom: Underground runs on. Continuing, the Xbox One stretch goal is set at $360,000. And, finally, if the game reaches $390,000, the game will be playable on PS3.
Funding continues until October 9, at 12:59 PM EDT. If you want to fund the game, click here to go to River City Ransom: Underground’s Kickstarter page. If you’re having trouble donating to the game (like one of our writers is having), we’ll keep an eye open for any PayPal options, which—given how other projects open that up after reaching their funding goals—should happen sooner rather than later.
