Hyper Light Drifter is a crowdfunded action RPG that has gone from a little Windows, Mac OS, and Linux game to a mini-juggernaut that will be coming to a number of consoles and has just been Greenlit for Steam. As a matter of fact, the first time we heard of this game, it had already reached 1,000% of its initial goal and reached its stretch goal for PS4 and Vita releases.
Recently, developer Heart Machine announced a stretch goal to bring Hyper Light Drifter to the Wii U. This comes after somewhat lengthy discussions with Nintendo and with seven days left for the Kickstarter campaign. The goal will be set at $550,000 (USD). If the goal is reached, those who donate $15 or more will be given an option for either Steam (Windows, Mac OS, Linux), PS4, Vita, Wii U, OUYA (also recently added), or a DRM-free copy for Windows, Mac OS, or Linux.
Heading toward a goal that would make Hyper Light Drifter funded more than twenty times over, the game has already expanded tremendously to include a co-op campaign, New Game+, Challenge Mode, Online Challenge Mode, and a number of other extras, like expanded areas and market items, extended cinematics, and new team members. The game will also have a bit of a crossover with WayForward’s Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. Backers of the game will be getting an exclusive bonus quest involving Risky Boots, arch-nemesis of WayForward’s hero Shantae.
