Originally shown on the Nico Nico live broadcast of this year’s TGS that focused exclusively on the latest entry in the Drakengard series (Drag-On Dragoon in Japan), Drakengard 3. The newest trailer for the title has been officially released by Square Enix — and in HD quality, no less. A word of caution, like Drakengard‘s and Nier‘s opening videos, the footage really treads spoiler territory. It shows what appears to be some heavy emphasis on scenes, specifically dealing with encountering the 5 Utautai (songstresses), Zero’s sisters and her quest in killing them to apparently save the world. So again, spoilers are abound, avoid the footage if you want to know as little as possible. If you don’t mind it however, you can check it out below.
Though without going into details, the music accompaniment is quite different from the previous video’s music track with a vocalist. It fits well with the melancholy-like tone and by itself sounds beautiful. The soundtrack is already shaping up to be yet another one for RPG fans to look out for. Then again, these are developers behind Nier, which to many fans had one of the best soundtracks this generation.
As for translations of some of the dialogue in the trailer, here is what we got from it. The first voice belonging to One:
What the hell do you know?! You destroy our peace, slaughter your own flesh and blood… And now you tell me… you’re telling me that was all so you could save the world, alone?!
The second, and last, bit of dialogue is an exchange between to Zero and her dragon companion Mikhail, telling him it’s time, with him sounding very reluctant when agreeing.
Drakengard 3 is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and is slated for release in Japan on December 19th of this year. Whether the game gets localized is still up in the air, but if you feel inclined, you can still sign this petition, which it seems like the director/writer of the game, Yoko Taro, is apparently watching closely. Another good sign is that it seems Square Enix is at least somewhat aware of the western fandom’s desire for this game.
