I will be the first one to admit how much I love dating sims/visual novels and the like. It started with Graduation ’95 (does anyone remember that game?), and it was all downhill from there. Through all of my days questing for the love of 3D girls, I have never been inclined to play an otome version—until now.

Sweet Fuse: At Your Side is an upcoming otome game for the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita via the PlayStation Network August 27, with a retail version to follow at a later date. A trailer has been released introducing us to several of the characters. Sweet Fuse follows the chronicles of Saki Inafune, game developer Keiji Inafune’s fictional niece, as she explores a theme park in search of something rarer than ride tickets: love. As Saki (you can rename her!), you’re not only searching for love, but fighting for your life in a deadly theme park.

Most visual novels have multiple endings, and Sweet Fuse is no different! The game boasts 14 different endings and twists and turns that add up to over 30 hours of gameplay. What really fuels the gameplay are the unique characters, including a police detective, a male escort, a pop star, a shy hardcore gamer, an older journalist, a quiet fortune teller and the always mysterious man who offers help.

Count Hogstein has trapped our heroine and her merry men in the theme park, where they’ll have to face puzzles based on dark parodies of the park’s video-game-themed attractions.

Full of sass and wonderful cheesiness, Sweet Fuse feels like it will be a breath of fresh air for many.
