Demon Gaze

Demon Gaze

This dungeon crawler is developed by Kadokawa Games and Experience Inc. In this one, players will be—yep, you guessed it—crawling dungeons or building relationships with the other characters by spending time with them at the inn. You can bet this title will get the grand treatment, as NIS America is handling its localization.

Final Fantasy X HD Remaster & Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster

Final Fantasy X

This may be heading to the PS3, as well, but if you want these two wonderful classics on the go you, might want to pick them up on the Vita instead. Featuring upgraded HD graphics and some material that was only found in the International release, these will be wonderful for anyone looking to replay these classics or for someone experiencing them for the first time.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Danganronpa

A murder mystery visual novel developed and published by Spike Chunsoft in Japan, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc follows a story of murder and intrigue at an elite high school known as Hope’s Peak Academy. Can you solve the gruesome murders, or will you set a killer free? Find out early 2014, when NIS America brings the title to North American shores. NIS America has stated if this title does well, they will possibly localize the sequel, as well.

1001 Spikes

1001 Spikes | Gameplay

Developed by 8bits Fanatics, 1001 Spikes is an enhanced remake of the 2011 Xbox Live Indie Game Aban Hawkins & the 1000 SPIKES for the Xbox 360. The Vita version will be published by Nicalis. With this one, you can bet on two things: it will be brutally difficult, and it will be a blast to play. I cannot wait to get my hands on this platforming game, which is something you will not hear me say often.

Dragon Fantasy Book II

Dragon Fantasy Book II | Victory

I loved the first game in this series, with its quirky humor and classic gameplay. Featuring upgraded graphics and an all-new combat system, I cannot wait to continue my adventure with Ogden when this one arrives.

Toukiden

Toukiden

Tecmo Koei is bringing another hunting-style game to the Vita console. This one features very customizable characters, from weapons and armor to the various skills found within the game. There is also some online co-op available in this title.

Valhalla Knights 3

Valhalla Knights 3

This entry in the series seems to be much improved over its predecessors. It features a very in-depth skills system, 7-on-7 online battles, and much more. With 7 different races and classes to choose from, great variety can be had when creating a character. I am really looking forward to seeing this title in action when it releases courtesy of XSEED Games.

Ys: Memories of Celceta

Ys: Memories of Celceta logo

This title looks to continue the traditions of this series, with some of the best music and action gameplay I have seen in a long time. I am really looking forward to seeing all this one has to offer when it releases this fall.

Tearaway

Tearaway

Play as “The Messenger”—either a male, Iota, or a female, Atoi—as you deliver your message in Tearaway‘s paper land. The game will take advantage of the Vita’s capabilities by using both the front touchscreen and the rear touchpad, as well as the camera. This will allow players to move items, create custom skins and fully immerse themselves in this wondrous land.

Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God

Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God

In this Compile Heart dungeon crawler, you set out to find ingredients to make the perfect curry. With several cities to explore and plenty of randomly generated dungeons, this one looks like it will be a ton of fun when it releases from Aksys Games.

Two Brothers

Two Brothers

This one is heading to several other platforms, as well, but if you want to take it on the road, the Vita just might be your console of choice. The title offers classic top-down Zelda-style gameplay with a story that is one of the most interesting ideas I have heard in years. It has me excited enough that the game will be a day-one purchase. You can find out more about Two Brothers by visiting Ackk Studios’ website.

Steve Baltimore
Steve started with oprainfall not long after the campaign moved from the IGN forums to Facebook. Ever since, he has been fighting to give all non-mainstream RPGs a fair voice. As the site admin, he will continue to do this and even show there is value in what some would deem "pure ecchi." He loves niche games and anime more than anything... well, except maybe Neptune.
