Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze title

During their E3 2013 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced a new entry in the Donkey Kong Country franchise. Entitled Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, this new game has you fight against vikings that have taken over the island. Nintendo also touted more dynamic cameras, as well as Dixie Kong as a playable character in multiplayer.

Tropical Freeze follows 2010’s Donkey Kong Country Returns by Retro Studios. A Texas-based development studio founded in October 1998, Retro is mostly known for the superb Metroid Prime trilogy as well as Donkey Kong Country Returns, the latter having been ported from the Wii to the 3DS a couple of weeks ago. Rumors surrounded their next project over the past few years. Some said it would be a new Star Fox title, some said it would be a crossover between Star Fox and Metroid, some said it would be a new Zelda title, and some said it would be an entirely new IP. It’s not quite known if they’re coming back for this new installment in the Donkey Kong Country series, but it wouldn’t be surprising if that were the case.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be released in 2013 for the Wii U.
