Hayao Miyazaki is back again with Studio Ghibli for another new animated film. The title is Kaze Tachinu, also known as The Wind Is Rising or The Wind Has Risen. Three new promotional images were recently made public. They’ll likely be used on posters for the film as the project moves along.
The Wind Is Rising is based on a manga and a short story of the same name. The manga was created by Miyazaki in 2009, and is loosely based on a 1937 short story by Tatsuo Hori. The film and manga are autobiographical accounts of the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter aircraft used in World War II. Neon Genesis Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno will voice Horikoshi.
The movie was originally set to premiere alongside another Ghibli film called Kaguya-hime no Monogatari (The Tale of Princess Kaguya); unfortunately, though, the latter was postponed. The Wind Is Rising is currently scheduled for release in Japan on July 20.
