Natsume has released new story and character information for the retro-styled RPG Mystic Chronicles. Mystic Chronicles is an enhanced version of the iOS game Fantasy Chronicles by Kemco with new localization by the aforementioned publisher.
The summary is as follows:
Mystic Chronicles follows the story of a mysterious youth, Lux, adopted by a small village. Lux has just begun his training to join the Holos Guild, a society charged with ridding the world of troublemakers. However, a chance meeting with a young girl sets in motion a series of events that sets Lux on a far more serious quest than just defeating ornery forest creatures! Could Lux end up being the savior of the entire world?!
Sounds like a typical JRPG setting in a simpler time, don’t you think? Let’s move on to the main cast.
Lux, the main controllable character for the majority of Mystic Chronicles, is a simple village boy with a mysterious past. He is described to be very close with his sister Fina, and his strange past is destined to haunt him as the game progresses.
Tina is a nun who players will meet early in the game. Her appearance strikingly resembles that of Lux’s sister; thus persuading Lux to find out if there’s any connection between the two women. Perhaps Tina’s role in the story will serve as a catalyst in unlocking his memories.
Corona is a precocious youth at Holos whom, like Lux, has a mysterious past. Unhappy with her current home life, she takes advantage of encountering Lux and his party to make her escape. So far, nobody knows where exactly she came from or what her roots are.
Ray’s character description is a bit hazy at the moment, but from what we know, he is a member of the Dark Clan, and his connections to the main cast have yet to be discovered.
Alberto is the captain of the Holos guild, and a mentor to Lux, whom he has looked after since he was small. Alberto will be guiding Lux through most parts of his journey, playing a crucial role at his development, and helping him make tough choices.
Each character in Mystic Chronicles has a Guardian Beast, a summoned unit whose AI can be set to attack, defend, or heal. They can be mixed and matched for each character in the game, and are influential to the story in the game. There has yet to be additional information on most of the cast’s Guardian Beasts, but Natsume has disclosed two so far.
Lux has a Guardian Beast called Lucius, who aids him in battle at his desperate need, and Coronoa has one called Baron, who shares an unusual relationship with her by acting as a mother figure.
Mystic Chronicles is set to be released in North America this summer. We will be sure to report back soon when we get a release date!
