Good news for those worried about whether the Ouya would support online multiplayer. An Ouya representative has confirmed that the console will indeed support the functionality at launch.
“We will definitely be supporting online multiplayer — developers just need to build in the functionality,” the representative explains.
While some features that we would like to see will not be available upon Ouya’s launch, they will be available later in the year. I am sure many of us would love to see these features available upon release; however, they will certainly be a welcome addition once they are added to the console.
Available later this year:
- Achievements
- Online chat
- Friends lists
At South by Southwest (SXSW) 2013, Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman was quoted as saying, “At the end of the day, I’d like Ouya to be on every single television, every single tablet, from every single OEM you can think of.” Uhrman hints that the shiny silver box may not always be a necessity—the console could eventually be built into our electronic devices. Would you purchase a TV, tablet or other device with the Ouya built in? It is certainly something to consider.
The Ouya will ship in April to those who pre-ordered and will be available in June for retail purchase.
