Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. You get to wear fun costumes, you can watch slasher films and other “horror” movies, and you get an excuse to eat lots of candy. If you’re an adult, just say that you’re getting some for trick-or-treaters. But it’s also the time of year to celebrate great survival horror video games.
Now, I’m not really a fan of survival horror games myself, but I can understand the appeal. It’s a shame that big publishers seem to have forgotten that appeal, considering every mainstream horror game these days are sort of lacking in the horror department. That’s why for this week and next week’s Retro Wrap-Up articles, the Operation Rainfall Retro Research Team (in other words, me) will be celebrating a few of the big-name horror franchises when they were at their peak the only way I know; by showing you old commercials for them.
This week, it’s Resident Evil.
And now, here are the highlights from this week.
David Rawlings shares his experience with Streets of Rage in his Operation Rainfall Origins piece.
Anarchy Reigns finally gets a western release date! Get excite!
E3 2013 has been announced for June 11-13 of next year. We’ll be better prepared for it next year, for sure.
Hideo Baba says he has no plans for making any Tales games for the Wii U right now. Hopefully, he might change his mind in the next couple years or so.
Crystal Baltimore reviews Dokuro for the PS Vita, I review Pokemon White 2 for the DS, and Devin Kotani reviews Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition for the PSP in his Games of the Past review.
The creator of the Wing Commander series, Chris Roberts, started a crowdfunding campaign for a new game, Star Citizen, on his own website. And then he started a KickStarter for a portion of his goal.
In addition to that, DotEmu.com is running a deal for over 40 Genesis titles for $10 total. The bundle ends on the 24th though, so if you want them, you better act fast.
Scribblenauts Unlimited for the Wii U have been confirmed to feature characters from Mario and Zelda. Sadly, we don’t get them for the 3DS version.
