1. Radiant Historia
Top 10

The one I often compare to Xenoblade Chronicles. No one was more surprised (or conflicted) than me to see Radiant Historia battling Link’s Awakening for the top spot by the time the voting drew to a close. It’s seriously like trying to put Ocarina of Time against Xenoblade, in my eyes. One is definitely a peak of the franchise it came from, and the other is a work of art that has no familiar origins to fall back on.

Radiant Historia (Atlus) is modern art that deserves the number one spot because a) it has absolutely, positively no nostalgia to fall back upon, and b) everything about the game pushes the DS so far to its limits that it could compete with console contemporaries in the RPG genre. The story of Stocke and The White Chronicle shall be etched into my brain for a long, long time to come.

And it absolutely kills me that a game this good remains underrated, with something of a cult following versus the widespread love from a game like Pokemon Gold, Silver, or Crystal. The best art is oftentimes the most under-appreciated. Radiant Historia is a masterpiece that is destined to become a classic like Link’s Awakening, The World Ends With You, Golden Sun, and other great games.

“Classic” and “controversy” are two words no Top 10 List can be without, really. What did you think of this one? Would you have made similar choices? Even better question: What PSP titles would you have included to give this list a little more variance? Please do discuss in the comments section below!
