After NetherRealm Studios (the company formerly known as Midway Chicago) gave the ultraviolent Mortal Kombat franchise a much-needed and much-appreciated reboot, they have now decided to give another important franchise the fighting game treatment: the DC Universe.

Putting the mixed reception of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe behind them, the studio, along with sister companies Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics, announced Injustice: Gods Among Us, set to be revealed in full during E3 2012.

As expected, the game’s cast will include characters from many series in the DC Universe. So far, the heroes revealed include Batman, Superman, The Flash and Wonder Woman, accompanied by DC villains Solomon Grundy and Harley Quinn. Like Mortal Kombat, the game is animated in a photorealistic style, and is set on stages such as the Batcave and Metropolis (the home of Superman).

Hopefully, Injustice will represent this vast comic empire well when it releases for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U next year.
