WiiWare has been criticized (http://www NULL.destructoid NULL.com/exclusive-why-fez-won-t-be-coming-to-wiiware-or-the-3ds-197355 NULL.phtml) by a few developers (http://www NULL.vg247 NULL.com/2012/02/27/team-meat-wiiware-horrible-but-3ds-eshop-reasonable/) in the last couple of years. One of which vowed to never work with Nintendo ever again (http://gamasutra NULL.com/view/news/168721/MDK2_console_dev_done_with_Nintendo_after_WiiWare_loss_9month_certification NULL.php) because of how bad the terms on WiiWare have been. Hopefully, if an anonymous developer is to be believed, that won’t be the case with the Wii U’s eShop service. While it mostly applies to retail games being available digitally, this also applies to digital-only games.
“They’re offering insane incentives for publishers to sell retail games as downloads on the console. You’d be stupid not to take advantage of it and go retail box-only”, the developer explains to Wii U Daily. “The new platform is perfect for indie devs, it’s a whole different ball game than WiiWare. They’ve learned a lot from that mess”.
Most of these incentives revolve around bigger revenue cuts than any other platform available right now and promotions on the service. It seems to fall in line with Nintendo’s efforts to seriously pursue digital distribution this time around. Because the source was anonymous, I had to put this in the RUMOR category, but I sincerely hope it’s true. In the wake of Nintendo’s E3 press conferences, they need all the good PR they can get.
