Mario and Luigi: Dream Team | oprainfall

While absent from Nintendo’s E3 Direct this morning, a new trailer for Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for the Nintendo 3DS has nonetheless been posted for our viewing pleasure. The trailer shares lots of footage involving the game’s combat mechanics, and more gameplay mechanics involving Luigi’s dreams, as well as some details about the plot. Additionally, this trailer appears to demonstrate the game’s graphical leap from that of previous Mario & Luigi games.

The trailer can be viewed below:

So it appears that Bowser is up to no good again by kidnapping Princess Peach, though a string of circumstances involving a malevolent spirit takes Peach into the world of Luigi’s dreams. Bowser still plays an antagonistic role, but it appears that he is a side villain playing a role in a much larger story.

The game will take place in and out of the real world, where players can travel between Luigi’s dreams and reality. There are dungeons in reality, but players will enter the dream world between levels on different occasions. A lot of the power-ups in the game are surreal, as Mario and Luigi can take advantage of dreams to take down enemies and solve puzzles. Luigi can multiply himself tenfold to roll into a ball, act as a wrecking crew, or control the environment by the reactions of his sleep.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team also makes interesting use of the dual screens, as players can tilt their 3DS’s sideways for gameplay and cinematic purposes. A clever demonstration of this is when both screens display different angles at motion.

Only on the Nintendo 3DS, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team will be available this Summer.
