Crimson Dragon creator Yukio Futatsugi told Joystick in an interview at E3 2013 that he wants the upcoming rail shooter title to become an RPG franchise. Crimson Dragon is an upcoming Xbox One exclusive title that was originally being developed as a Kinect game for Xbox 360.
In the interview, Futatsugi told the reporter that while the team is focused solely on finishing Crimson Dragon, the game’s story and atmosphere has been crafted in such a way that it could easily be turned into an RPG. Futatsugi is best known for creating the Panzer Dragoon series, so the idea of a Crimson Dragon RPG would be quite a welcoming prospect. Crimson Dragon looks to become the spiritual successor to the Panzer Dragoon series, as it will include many of the former development team who worked on Panzer Dragoon Saga and Panzer Dragoon Orta.
Futatsugi also welcomed a chance to see Panzer Dragoon Saga to get a re-release as a downloadable game, which is a definite possibility since Sega has started to push for re-releases of many of their other franchises, such as Jet Set Radio and Nights.
Crimson Dragon is set as an Xbox One exclusive, but no release date has been officially confirmed.
