Final Fantasy XIV | oprainfall gaming

So this week, I didn’t get much actual gaming done, what with the holidays and all, but it wasn’t completely devoid of playtime. Final Fantasy XIV‘s annual Starlight celebration is underway, so of course I had to take part. I try to hand out gifts every year to new players, but unfortunately it wasn’t in the cards this time around. Alongside our festivities, we also got a ton of new information on the upcoming Patch 6.3, and I am very excited for that. The next part of the alliance raid is gonna be fantastic (so many goddesses just ready to beat me senseless, yes thank you). Other than that, I did get a couple new otome games for Christmas: Olympia Soiree and Piofiore: Fated Memories. I’m eager to try them out when I get the time! We were also the video game elves for most of my family this year, which was very satisfying. I like giving video games to folks, especially retro titles. It’s nice to see the expressions on their faces. How was your holiday? Did you guys get anything special and/or neat? – Leah

Mahjong Soul | Four Concealed Triplets Yakuman Win

Same as Leah, I didn’t get a lot of gaming done while being busy getting ready for Christmas. Something I got for Christmas Eve though was the satisfaction of destroying people in Riichi Mahjong, specifically the Mahjong Soul phone game app. Yep, I’ve been getting back into Mahjong Soul, as usual, whenever I find a bit of time for a match. And Saturday morning I ended up getting a Yakuman I didn’t even know I had. I’ve gone for Thirteen Orphans before in Mahjong Soul, as well as the Big Three Dragons hand. Until Christmas Eve, I had never gotten the Four Concealed Triplets Yakuman before. There are quite a few Yakuman options and that’s not one I had looked much into before. It turns out it’s kind of unique. Not only do you have to only have triplets, you also have to go for Riichi obviously, it is a concealed hand. But not only that, you also have to win with a Tsumo, you can’t get the winning tile from stealing someone’s discard if you want the Yakuman. So I surprised both myself and I’m sure the other three people in the room, when I won that round. That was only the first round and I also ended up winning the whole overall match with a total of 63,900 points.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get anything game related for Christmas this year, I still got some nerdy gifts though, various books, manga and anime, but that was the extent of the nerdier stuff I received this year. However, I also got some Amazon cash for Christmas, so I ordered a copy of Harvestella since it just went back in stock on Christmas for $20 off. I just have to wait until February to actually receive it. I snagged it regardless since it seems like it’s going to be one of those more scarce Switch releases and I didn’t want to miss out. I’ve been dying to play since I tried out the demo a while ago. It’s definitely my type of game and I think I’ll have fun. Also, I spread the joy of Tactics Ogre this Christmas. I have a sibling who used to really enjoy SRPGs on the PS1 and whose favorite is Final Fantasy Tactics, but they had never played Tactics Ogre before, yet just got a PS5. I figured it was perfect and ended up highly recommending another sibling bought Tactics Ogre: Reborn for them when they had no other ideas of what to get. Based on the comments made on Christmas upon the gift being opened, it seems to have been a great choice. – Jenae
