At the latest Nintendo Direct Koei Tecmo announced that SAMURAI WARRIORS 5 would be releasing later this year. Today they have shared more details on how this entry will be changing things up a bit. As you could see from the announcement trailer the visual style has been revamped to a more cell shaded look. There will of course be a new story and the character designs have been completely redesigned to help fit the storyline’s Sengoku time period. There will be 27 playable characters in total. These characters include both new and returning warriors, from Ieyasu Tokugawa and Hideyoshi Hashiba to Nō, and Yoshimoto Imagawa. an Original character Mitsuki – a Kōga Ninja, has also been added, and there will be more to come later on.

All-new Musou actions have been added thei time around. Including newly designed Musou Frenzy Attacks that will blow away hordes of enemies in style. These actions are displayed in a vibrant new Japanese ink painting art style to showcase the Sengoku period in stunning fashion. The entangled stories of Nobunaga and Mitsuhide unravel on screen like a Sengoku period picture scroll.

SAMURAI WARRIORS 5 is currently under development for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 (PlayStation 5 Compatible), the Xbox One / Series X consoles, and Windows PC via Steam, and is set to launch across North America on July 27, 2021.

About Steve Baltimore

Steve started with oprainfall not long after the campaign moved from the IGN forums to Facebook. Ever since, he has been fighting to give all non-mainstream RPGs a fair voice. As the site admin, he will continue to do this and even show there is value in what some would deem "pure ecchi." He loves niche games and anime more than anything... well, except maybe Neptune.
